Measurable reduction in greenhouse gases by 2033

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated the near-term science-based emission reduction targets of Qlar Group GmbH. Qlar has thus set an important milestone for a measurable reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in Scopes 1, 2 and 3 in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol and has established emission reduction as a binding component of its corporate strategy.

Qlar commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 55% by 2033 from a 2023 base year. The company also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions by 36% within the same timeframe. ‘The validation of our near-term targets by the SBTi is a key step for us in consistently aligning our emissions reduction with science-based criteria and managing it in a binding manner,’ says Dr Jörg Ulrich, CEO of the Qlar Group. ‘It increases transparency for customers, partners and employees and makes our progress measurable and traceable against clear targets.’ The SBTi is a corporate climate action organization that supports companies and financial institutions worldwide in making their contribution to combating the climate crisis. To this end, it develops standards, tools and guidelines and creates a framework for action to measurably reduce emissions.

Sustainability along the entire value chain

The validated targets for 2033 are concrete milestones in Qlar's sustainability strategy. The bulk solids expert is focusing on emission-related levers along its own value chain and, at the same time, is driving the further development of efficient and resource-saving process solutions for customers. Qlar is pursuing the long-term corporate goal of achieving ‘net zero’ across all scopes by 2050. By 2033, the company aims to source 100% of its electricity demand from renewable energy. In addition to reducing emissions, the focus is on reducing water consumption and responsible waste and supply chain management. At the same time, as a technology leader in the field of industrial processing technologies, Qlar supports customers on their path to a more sustainable future. Whether in the production of green steel and cement, recycling or battery cell manufacturing, Qlar's technologies and solutions reduce the use of natural resources and lower emissions. The best example is the MultiFlex Feeder. It reduces energy consumption in cement production and enables the use of non-recyclable waste materials as alternative energy sources.
